Fund Traffic Relief Projects
Tell Congress to Support 30/10 Today
The L.A. Area Chamber continues to play a key role in efforts to reduce the region’s traffic congestion and build more mass transit. In 2003, the Chamber joined with L.A. County Metro to form the Mobility 21 coalition which developed a regional, collaborative approach to addressing transportation challenges. Since then, we’ve been advocating at the state and federal levels for more investment in improving mobility for goods and people.
Today, the Chamber is also focused on a new effort – the 30/10 initiative - which aims to build 30 years’ worth of transit projects in just 10 years. In 2008, L.A. County voters approved Measure R, a ½ cent sales tax increase to generate $40 billion in transportation funding over the next 30 years. This initiative would use that revenue as collateral for long-term bonds and other immediate federal investments to complete key projects in just one decade.
Accelerating construction will result in substantial cost savings, create more than 100,000 new jobs locally, improve air quality and ease traffic congestion. The 30/10 Initiative is also a national model that can be applied in other regions.
