Reform Public Education
The L.A. Area Chamber is proud to have one of the largest education and workforce development programs of any business organization in the United States. A strong economy depends on an educated, trained workforce with the skills necessary to compete in the 21st century global economy. To that end, the Chamber has sponsored two active state legislative bills aimed at strengthening the system for future job creators.
AB 2211(Fuentes) would provide more opportunities for high school students to earn academic credit by participating in workplace internships. This bill promotes the development of more partnerships between school districts and employers across California for student internships, job shadowing and other work experience opportunities.
AB 1223 (Block) would help teachers implement Linked Learning strategies in public education. Linked Learning expands upon traditional education methods by connecting classroom learning with real world applications and job skill development. Bringing career education and technical skill development into the classroom will better prepare students for entering the workforce and the transition to different careers throughout their working lives.
